Pencil pot

A simple and pleasing design, these look lovely around the house or woodland camp.

1. Cut a round of wood that is the same size as you would like your pot. The example on this page is 10cm long and 8cm in diameter.

Choose wood with an attractive bark pattern such as cherry or birch.

2. Drill holes into the end of the round for your pencils. A standard pencil is 7mm in diameter, so an 8-mm drill bit should do.

For this, you could use a bit and brace set or, of course, an electric drill. You may need to clamp the wood to keep it in place while drilling.

You don’t have to use the pot for pencils. How about filling it with paintbrushes, toothbrushes or even candles? You may need to drill bigger holes depending on your intended use.
